Starting therapy

Consultation
I offer a 15-minute consultation (either on the phone or via video), so you can get a sense of whether we are a good match. It is also an opportunity for me to decide whether or not I will be able to help you.

Following the consultation, we will set up an intake appointment, either in person or virtually. I will send you an email with information about what forms in the client portal need to be completed at least 24 hours prior to your session. You also will receive an invoice for payment of your 1st session, which needs to be completed prior to the session.

My approach to treatment involves collaborative goal setting at both the onset and throughout therapy as well as actively discussing techniques that are found to be most helpful.

Therapy often leads to improved relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in distress. Because therapy also involves discussing difficult aspects of your life, it can be uncomfortable approaching unpleasant thoughts and feelings as well as difficult to make changes to beliefs and behaviors. However, by working through these areas, it can lead to tremendous personal growth as well as the resolution of long-term issues.

The length of psychotherapy treatment varies considerably depending on the person and the nature of the person’s problem. It is difficult, if not impossible, to accurately pinpoint the amount of time it will take to experience relief. For those seeking relief from troublesome but straightforward problems, therapy can be effective in as little as 8 to 12 sessions. For more complex issues, therapy may last several months to several years.

As a solo practitioner, my practice does not support those who need after-hours care ( after 7pm) or crisis services. I will not be a good fit for you if you need this level of care.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please do one of the following:

      – Go to your nearest emergency department

      – Call 911

      – Call 988 if you are experiencing a suicidal or mental health crisis

      – Text “HELLO” to 741741

      – Call Monroe County Mobile Crisis at (585) 529-3721)

Insurances

I’ve recently partnered with Alma (helloalma.com) to help me run my private practice.

Through Alma, I take Aetna , Cigna, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield (includes BlueCard Network) and Optum (includes UnitedHealthcare, Oscar, and Oxford.)  For more information about insurance, click here: Alma Insurances

The Alma team will confirm your insurance eligibility and provide you with an estimate of your payment responsibility. Regarding next steps, I’ll enter your insurance details into their system and they will email you once they’ve confirmed your active coverage and payment responsibility.

You may also choose to not utilize your insurance for therapy services and solely pay out of pocket.

Payments

I will be considered an “out of network” provider if you are not a part of the above insurances and you will be responsible to pay for sessions out of pocket.  I provide a Superbill for my clients to be reimbursed by their insurance provider.  Please call your insurance provider to determine your coverage and their policies.

All payments for sessions can be made by Cash, Check, Credit Card or HSA/FSA and are accepted for payment at the time of service.  Payments can be submitted through the superbill link or through the Client Portal .
